How to Properly Store Your Matcha Powder

Så förvarar du ditt matchapulver rätt

To preserve the freshness and flavor of matcha powder, proper storage is crucial. Matcha is sensitive to light, air, moisture, and heat, which can degrade both its taste and shelf life. To protect the matcha powder, it should be stored in an airtight container, preferably made of metal or dark glass, to minimize exposure to light and air.

Many of the most dedicated tea enthusiasts in Japan store matcha in the refrigerator, where the cool temperature helps maintain both its color and flavor. Avoid storing matcha in humid environments, as it can easily absorb moisture and clump, affecting both its texture and taste. When removing matcha from the refrigerator, allow the container to reach room temperature before opening it to avoid condensation, which can introduce moisture to the powder.

For best results, matcha should be used within a few weeks after the package has been opened.
